Denison Finishes Strong and stays above .500 once again
The Big Red mens hockey team finished the season with a final record of 13-8. After a tough battle with Xavier for the first two periods of their tournament game, Denison was unable to hold on and was knocked out of contention by the eventual champion.
Denison has hung up the skates for the year and would like to thank all of our fans for the tremendous support they should us this season with a great improvement on attendance at the games over last years. The team will definitely miss the seniors next year as they made a big contribution and were great leaders on the team. Denison routs West Liberty to sweep the Weekend
The Big Red certainly came up huge this past weekend winning both games against West Liberty by scores of 19-1 and 10-4. Denison saw contributions from all over the ice with every player getting points over the weekend. The boys were pretty stoked as the new uniforms came in just in time for the spring semester to begin. Go to the Denison Ice Hockey Facebook page for a look at the new uniforms as well as pictures from this past weekends games.
The Big Red currently sits at 11-4 on the season and will take on Wittenberg this coming weekend in Dubin, OH.

Lacing up the skates for the Spring Semester
Denison Begins its play this semester with a home and home against West Liberty this Friday at 9pm and Saturday at 4. Last season saw a big score differential between the two teams and several players boosted their stats. Come out and support the boys and hope for more of the same to get the wheels turning in preparation for the upcoming tournament. With a few new faces on the team this semester as well as the return of some from abroad, the Big Red look to make this tilt one for the highlight film.

Big Red come up short against Gannon
As the Boys from Erie came down for a game, they went home with a win by a score of 9-6. In a high paced affair that most Denison Boys aren't used to, they hung with Gannon for a while but came up short in the end. Fans who came to the game saw a great game of hockey played by both teams. John Fixari had a two goal night, while Mr. PR himself Abe Freidin managed to get one past the tender. Denison will be hosting Wittenberg this weekend at home, games are 9pm Friday and 7pm on Saturday. we hope for a big attendance this weekend from our fan base so come on out and support the Big Red as they hope to jump back into the winners circle.
The Boys are back at it. Currently 5-2
Denison Hockey is back up and running and picked up pretty much where they off last year. The first weekend saw the fellas win games against Wittenberg and Wheeling Jesuit. The Big Red faced Oakland University in the championship game but came up short to come in second place in their tournament. After disappointing following weekend with NKU canceling on the boys, there next two match ups showed the resilience was still present as they completed the weekend sweet against the College of Wooster. Last weekend the boys traveled to Wheeling to take on WJU again and came home with a win and a loss as many of the boys were unable to make the trip. Denison takes on Gannon University at 4pm Saturday 10/27 at 4pm at home so come out and support the boys for another tilt.
Welcome Back to The Hill
As classes have started the Big Red look to begin their season with their annual Kickoff Tournament starting 9/21. With the addition of several new players Denison looks to continue off of the growth it had last Season. Denison will play Wittenberg, Wheeling Jesuit University, and Oakland University it it's kick off weekend. See The tournament page for detail on Game times for the entire weekend! The Big Red will kick off action against Wheeling Jesuit at 7:00pm on the 21st. Look forward to see the stands full.
Denison Comes in 3rd at 70/71 Tournament
After a win and a tie to the first two nights Denison ended up finishing the tournament with a 6-2 loss vs. Xavier. While the score may show a significant differential it was not an indicator of the play on the ice Saturday night. Both teams played great games that displayed some quality hockey for all to watch. While the outcome may have not been what the Big Red wanted, all players were happy with the play the team put forth in their final game of the season. Fans and teammates looked on as seniors Stu Jeffers, Skyler Rusch, and Andrew Heidel played their last games in a Big Red uniform and were very proud of it. The team will certainly miss the contribution these three players had next year. The team would like to thank all fans that came out this year and supported a team that was struggling early on in the school year.
For now....
For now....
Denison 1-0-1 after first two games.
Denison came out friday night knowing that Wittenberg would be a tough opponent as both games played against them this year were decided by one goal. The game started with a ceremonial puck drop taken by Abe Freidin and his ridiculous flow. From there it was all hockey as the Big Red and Wittenberg went into the locker between each period with the game tied up1-1 and 2-2 between the first and second. Shortly into the third Wittenberg put in a squeaker past goalie Andrew Clark, but Denison battled right back tying up the game. A great game was had by Dylan Lee as he put one home for the boys during this game and had a nice ice grab to celebrate. The tying goal was snuck in by none other than Marcus King, as it was a pass, shoot, score move had between himself, Stu Jeffers, and John Fixari. The big Red would like to than fans for coming out to the game as this tournament had provided more fan base than has appeared all season. Denison will continue play Saturday at 915 vs. Xavier and a win is needed if they want to proceed to the big game on sunday.
First Game of Tournament brings the Big Red a W
A Thursday night game is an odd occasion for the Big Red players, but this past Thursday they came to the rink to take on the college of Wooster. For what many thought would be an easy win, Denison struggled to get a win out of this match. Down 4-3 towards the middle of the third, Denison came back to eventually win the game 5-4. James Goodenough played a good game in between the pipes as he put forth his second game this semester. Denison will play Wittenberg tomorrow at 745pm.
Louisville Brings Denison a Weekend Split
This past weekend saw the boys go down to old Louisville Kentucky to take on the Cardinals for the second time this year. After losing the home series against the Cards, DU wanted to get their revenge and friday night they may have done just that. Friday night saw a high scoring affair as the Big Red won the game by a final score of 7-5. Down a few guys, Denison really pulled together with a whole team effort to achieve this win. Sophomore Dylan Lee put forth a great effort slamming several pucks home while posted up in front of the net. Junior Tendy James Goodenough had a great effort in net for his first return to the pipes this semester. The second game friday however did not appear to work out in Denison's favor and the Big Red lost by a score of 10-6. With Goodenough not able to play goalie, fellow junior Wiley Miller stepped up and strapped on the pads for the game, and having never played goalie before stopped over 75% of his shots. The weekend was a great one had by all while we do wish the outcome may have been a bit different.
The Big Red take this weekend off as they prepare for the upcoming 70/71 tournament next weekend. They hope to claim the title as they were stopped short in the Kick-off tournament this past fall. Game play begins on Thursday at 9pm and the rest of the schedule can be found on the tournament page.

Big Red opens up Second semester with 2 wins vs. WLSU
Denison opens up the semester with two wins this past weekend vs. West Liberty State University by scores of 9-2 and 20-1. Friday night's game saw a bit of a struggle as many players had to get the dust off their skates that had accumulated over winter break. Saturday afternoon's game was a different story as Denison got hot right away with a score of 8-0 before most of the fans showed up. This game also saw quite an increase in support from the Denison community as many students came out to help cheer on their fellow class mates to quite a victory. The Big Red welcomed back Wiley Miller from his study across the pond as well as newcomer Sam Taggart who gave a significant contribution to the point tallies. Stu Jeffers had quite the weekend as his wicked slap-shot seemed to find the back of the net every time it was fired, senior Andrew Heidel also contributed a few snipes. Other members of the team helped their stats greatly this past weekend and a new semester stats board will be posted as soon as the game score sheet is received. The Big Red take the next weekend off and then will travel to The University of Louisville to take on the Cards the following weekend.
Semester finished 10-4
The Big Red finished out there 1st semester of play with a 10 win and 4 loss record by completing the away sweep of West Liberty University. Denison won both games by a score of 16-1 and 13-1. This game was a great way to finish out the semester as all the boys enjoyed padding the stats a little. As the semester is done Denison will come back with some old faces for next semester as several players return from abroad. Abe Freidin, Chris Shaker, and Wiley Miller will come back from their semester abroad while the team will lose Drew Rice due to Varsity Baseball. Word on the street is that old goaltender James Goodenough and fellow golfer Michael Crimmins may also be returning for this spring semester. Play starts back up on January 20th as the Big Red will once again take on WLSU.
Winning Streak Continues vs. WJU
Denison continued its current hot streak vs. Wheeling Jesuit as this time the Cardinals came to the Big Red. However, the visiting team did not fair so well as they did at home, as Denison won both games by a score of 5-2 and 10-1. The Big Red saw a lot more commitment from several of its players during this weekend of play and it turned out to help quite a bit.
Big Red Win home series vs. NKU
Northern Kentucky came to Denison 11/4 and 11/5 to play a series against the Big red and ended up going home empty handed. A hard fought game was played Friday night as Denison prevailed 4-1. The game got a little rough at some points and some trash talking was sure to be had. With the support of the biggest turnout by fans that the Big Red had seen all season, they were able to not get bought up it the debacles and just put the Biscuits in the Baskets. The next night turned out to be an enjoyable game as the Big Red cruised to an easy 9-2 victory over the Norseman. Denison Looks to keep its winning streak going this weekend as they take on Wheeling Jesuit at home. Game times are 9pm friday night and 4pm on saturday. Denison's record is now 6-4.
Denison Gets back to .500
Halloween weekend provided to be just what the Big Red needed as both games this weekend against Wheeling Jesuit were won. The team made this trip out to Wheeling, WV and the 2 hour drive proved to be quite worth it. The first was an OT thriller in which Denison manage to skate with only 7 players and saw senior Stu Jeffers score the winning goal shortly into the overtime period. Denison then rallied its troops for Sunday and won by a score of 7-1. This proved to show Denison hockey has some serious players and dedication.
Two weekends after Tournament
After a good start to the season going 2-1 in the Kick-off Tournament, Denison struggled in the games following losing to Louisville 7-4, and 6-2 in a home and home series. The following weekend the Big Red fell in another close fought battle against Wittenberg with a score of 6-5, the second one-goal loss of the season. Denison is now 2-4 on the season.
Denison Finishes Second in Kick-Off Tournament
Denison came in second place this past weekend after falling short to Wittenberg by a score of 3-2. It was quite a battle for both teams who only had 11 players on the bench each. This was the first real test for Denison as their opening game was won by a score of 34-2 against West Liberty, followed by another win of 9-2 against Northern Kentucky. Both stats and photos from the tournament will be posted as soon as they are finalized and received. Denison looks to continue on with its season this weekend as the Big Red host the University of Louisville's hockey team for Friday night and Saturday afternoon games. Go Big Red!
